Whether it is a renovation, where we want to obtain a second (third?) bathroom, or a new construction, the ability of the designer and the needs of the users will define the choices even when the cubic meters are reduced.

In Italy, for example, there are regulations and technical indications to be followed for the bathroom design, such as the obligation of an opening towards the outside for air exchange or the presence of ventilation and mechanical suction systems. Here are also defined the essential elements that must be present in a home, at least in a bathroom: the toilet, sink, bidet and then the bathtub or shower.

Attention should be paid also to the choice of sanitary ware on the market: there are in fact very small solutions, which could be preferred.

For particularly small spaces, the washbasin is preferable suspended or standing on top of a storage unit: in combination, the mixer could be built-in, or deck mounted while it is preferable to avoid scenic solutions, like exposed mixer or freestanding spout, which require for more space.

A valid alternative to the toilet brush could be a hand spray: a functional and hygienic proposal that takes up little space.

The shower is preferable to the bathtub, even if there are reduced solutions on the market: the shower head can be combined with the wall or ceiling arm. The hand shower can be wall mounted, with the water connection in line with the thermostatic mixer and built-in taps.

A further consideration that need to be made when planning a small bathroom is related to the distances of the sanitary ware: between the toilet and the bidet must be at least 20-25cm, as well as for the next walls; for the passage about 55-60cm in front of the sanitary ware.
